Success! Bury Lodge Park – pavements repairs started

For many years with the Friends of Bury Lodge Park I have pressed the Council to repair the pavements around the playing field (beyond the pergolas). These have been in a worsening state for a very long time.

Last year the Council agreed to a £30k fund to address this with works in November – this did not happen – and I have been chasing ever since.

Delighted to say the contractors were booked and the works have now commenced.

Enfield Labour Council spends £665,000 on furniture in under two years!

Labour Council has surged spending on lavish furniture.

• Driven by the Labour Councils multi-million £ makeover ‘Build to Change’ project. Conservatives have called for a halt on spending and reinvest into frontline services.

• £250,000 was spent on furniture at the Housing Hub in a £3.78 million pound refurbishment – the building will be demolished in the Edmonton Green redevelopment.

• Council cannot provide breakdown of individual furniture item spend on the Housing Hub works.

• £415,000 Civic Centre spend includes £1,100 chairs, £2,200 sofas and £15,000 boardroom table.

Shadow Finance Councillor James Hockney said: “When the Labour Council keeps saying it has no money – but spends money like this, it is quite incredible. This money could and should have been invested into frontline services.

Such spending on lavish furniture on the taxpayer’s money would be an insult and wrong at any time; let alone during cost of living when many residents would want to be able to buy new furniture – but are not in a position to.”

Conservatives say; halt this spending and invest in the residents priorities

Street tree campaign success – huge tree planting Bush Hill Park Ward!

Across Bush Hill Park Ward we received overall 128 trees (up from 14 last year) on following road;

Abbey Road, Amberley Gardens, Amberley Road Ash Grove, Borden Road, Brendon Road, Bury Street West, Church Street, Colne Road, Countisbury Avenue, Crawley Road, Delhi Road, Edenbridge Road, Elsiedene Road, Firs Lane, Firs Park Avenue, Halstead Gardens, Halstead Road, Hydefield Close, Hyde Park Avenue, Kent Road, Longleat Road, Lynmouth Avenue, Lynton Gardens, Park Avenue, Percy Road, Porlock Road, Queen Anne’s Grove, Queen Anne’s Place, Ridge Road, Sennan Road, Solna Road, Sittingbourne Avenue, Teynham Avenue, Village Road, Wellington Road, York Road

We launched the campaign after only 14 trees were planted last year – that resulted in a net loss of street trees.

This year the planting season includes some roads that had few / no trees.

Edmonton A10 Skatepark – great progress made!

Since March 2021 I have been raising the neglected condition of the skatepark with Enfield Council. This has involved a lot of time and effort including many site visits – but we have now seen significant progress made. It is now looking much better.

  • Area torn up during cemetery expansion resurfaced.
  • New bins installed and regular litter picking of the site.
  • Potholes near ramps repaired.
  • Maintenance works on the trees/bushes/grass.
  • New fencing barrier installed.
  • Planting area created.
  • Graffiti continues to be removed from old toilet building / ramps. Some had swear words.
  • Artist commissioned to work with community and skatepark groups to create artwork on the skatepark ramps / equipment.
  • Also requested benches to be installed.

If anyone has ideas of how we can improve the site further please let me know.

Bush Hill Park Tree Watch – progress!

As previously posted, I have been pressing the Council on the unacceptable net loss of street trees across Bush Hill Park Ward.
Given the Council has declared a Climate Emergency we should be seeing a visible and sustained increase of trees across Bush Hill Park Ward.
Efforts have included putting a question to Council Cabinet Member. They are now looking to redress the loss – watch this space.

Campaign for Raglan School 20mph limit continues

Raglan School Road Safety Update

➡️ We continue to call for 20mph School speed limits at the Amberley Road and Raglan Road entrances. The call has been ongoing since 2018 and we not stop until this is secured. Currently only Wellington Road has a School time 20mph limit.

➡️ Add your support emailing Traffic@Enfield.gov.uk and please feel welcome to copy me in Cllr.James.Hockney@Enfield.gov.uk ➡️ Four years ago the community successfully secured the Zebra crossing and extended zig zag lines on Wellington Road.
➡️ We would like to see School walk to School project (known as walking buses) to encourage walking and reducing car use. Sadly there is £0 funding from the Council.

➡️ There have been complaints about anti social parking and we regularly contact parking enforcement about this. This occurs on many roads and most complaints are about Wellington Road and Manor Way. If you see anti social / illegal parking please contact parking enforcement.

We will not rest until there is a 20mph speed limit on Raglan Road and Amberley Road.

Salmon Brook barriers repaired – Campaign success

Pleased to report that after many months of pressing Enfield Council for action; that the Salmons Brook barriers have now been repaired.

This was clearly a concern to many due to the safety issues.

Call for A10 action grows

We continue to press the issue of tackling A10 speeding.

In the last week we received front page coverage in the Enfield Independent Newspaper.

Our call is for average speed 📸cameras network between Southbury Road junction / Great Cambridge Road roundabout like the northern section of the A10.

Please sign the petition. https://www.change.org/p/sadiq-khan-enfield-average-speed-cameras-for-a10-southbury-road-junction-to-great-cambridge-road-roundabout

Labour neglect of Edmonton A10 Skatepark

It is a disgrace that Enfield Labour run Council continues to neglect the A10 Edmonton Skatepark.

Today we had a site visit and continue to raise this to a senior level at the Council.

Many issues about the conditions and maintenance at the skatepark still remain. As you know I have been pressing the Council for action since last year.

Along with Councillor Peter Fallart and Councillor Pat Gregory – we will keep pressing Enfield Labour run Council to account – as our youngsters deserve better.
