Police speeding / motor vehicle enforcement – some good news!

I am continuing to work with the Bush Hill Park Police and CAPE on the issue of speeding and dangerous driving.

This includes, through the CAPE, that speeding/anti-social driving is one of the key priorities for the Bush Hill Park Police. At the moment we are working on securing funds for the local officers to be trained on using the speed gun.

Some good news, is that whilst we wait on this; the local team still specifically allocated resources for car patrols in the meantime!

For instance a car driving erratically on Fords Grove N21 was stopped, the driver wasn’t insured to drive the vehicle and the vehicle has been seized.
The number of seized vehicles on Bush Hill Park in the last month has now EXCEEDED 15! Most of the time stops are due to the manner of driving.

On average the Bush Hill Park Police are seizing about one car per shift. However there are occasions where they process drivers for other offences such as using a mobile phone whilst driving – which doesn’t include seizing vehicles.

In addition, as the Police move towards undertaking speed gun work, they are asking for volunteers to join the Community Speed Watch scheme – where residents assist the Police. If you would be interested in helping please go to the the following link;

Motor vehicle crime – Bush Hill Park Ward

The local Police asked me to share with you the Bush Hill Park Ward vehicle crime figures so far this month of February.

Bury Street West is particularly being targeted for Theft of Motor Vehicles for Catalytic Converters. There
was an attempt to steal one in the street, but they managed to remove and steal some parts. Informant saw three males walk off towards the A10 and one of them was holding what appeared to be a catalytic converter. There was also an incident just around the corner in Little Bury Street, again a Catalytic Converter was stolen. Solna Road, N21 has been targeted twice this month they were Theft from Motor Vehicles.

The Bush Hill Park Police advise to park vehicles in a garage (if you have one). If not recommend driveway parking vehicles at an angle, against a wall or fence so that suspects cannot access the catalytic converter.

Suspects have been known to jack up the on street parked vehicles so that they can get underneath. I appreciate not everyone has the option of off street parking.

The local Police also advised of the option to make contact with the vehicle manufacturer to see if they could make the catalytic converter secure and prevent it being stolen.

I have attached an information sheet about catalytic converter theft. Not the best news – but thought it was important to be aware. The information sheets are also quite informative.

Action on dog fouling

As a Bush Hill Park Councillor, I have been actively working with the Council Environmental Team and residents on the scourge of dog mess on pavements.

So far I have identified a number of roads that are especially blighted; including Delhi Road, Queen Anne’s Place, Queen Anne’s Grove, Wellington Road and Bury Street West.

Action from the Council included clearance of the offending waste. The Council have also placed stickers on litter bins – that they can be used to place bagged dog waste.

In addition; as restrictions ease increased targeted enforcement / awareness raising will be taking place.

If you know of any other roads that are a problem within Bush Hill Park Ward please let me know.

Bury Lodge Park playground – Dogs being taken in

The Friends Group has raised concern that individuals are taking dogs into the playground. This is not allowed and has a specific by-law covering this.

I have been in touch with the Council who have installed additional signage as a reminder. Covid Marshalls are also conducting regular visits as well.

Any breaches can be reported to the Council Parks Team: parkactivities@enfield.gov.uk 020 83791449

No pollution monitors in Bush Hill Park Ward

There are Zero 0️⃣ pollution monitors in Bush Hill Park Ward. Please see red outline boundary map image.

I will keep pressing Enfield Council on this – it is unacceptable.

Especially given Council declared a Climate Emergency in July 2019.

If you contact the Council please feel welcome to copy me on the email!

Some good news; Trinity Avenue part resurfacing

There have been calls for sometime to get this section of road resurfaced – as it has been littered with pot holes for many years.

I am pleased to report that the stretch of the road from First Avenue end of Trinity Avenue to outside number 12 will be resurfaced starting next week.

Whilst this is not the full resurfacing of the stretch that I was hoping for; it is a start. I spoke with the lead Highways Officer, who will put in a bid for the next financial year to hopefully finish the job (April 2021 – April 2022).

In addition all existing potholes were surveyed in the last week and are down for patch repairs.

Certainly whilst progress is made – I will keep pressing until the whole stretch is resolved!

Bush Hill Park Ward – Call for more trees – update

I have been making ongoing enquiries about the level of trees planted on our pavements as a local Bush Hill Park Councillor.

Since the start of 2019 to the end of this financial year (April 2021); a total of 42 trees have been removed and 92 trees planted – a net addition, but only of 50 trees across the Ward – not enough by far!

Trees that are with the contractors to plant by April (some may have been done recently) are as follows and within the numbers above;

Abbey Road, 1 Tree / Bury Street West, 2 Trees / Church Street, 2 Trees / Colne Road, 1 Tree / Halstead Gardens, 1 Tree / Harlow Road, 1 Tree / Melbourne Way, 2 Trees / Queen Annes Gardens, 1 Tree / Second Avenue, 1 Tree / Trinity Avenue, 2 Trees.

If your road/street has seen a net reduction in trees over the years, please let me know. Please see red line map (to the right) to see if you are within Bush Hill Park Ward.

I have called on the Council for greater action. Especially since Enfield Labour run Borough Council declared a ‘Climate Emergency ‘ in July 2019 a total of 40 trees have been planted and 26 removed – a net addition of just 14 trees in 17 months! Clearly not good enough!

If you are also concerned about tree levels in Bush Hill Park Ward please feel welcome to email the Cabinet Member for Environment Cllr.Guney.Dogan@Enfield.gov.uk and copy me in Cllr.James.Hockney@Enfield.gov.uk.
